POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education
- High School Diploma or GED
- Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) credential
OR
- Associate’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or equivalent college degree with 18 credits in early childhood education and/or child development or infant/toddler development (as evidenced by a transcript).
Experience
- One (1) year of experience teaching in a licensed childcare or public pre-k setting
Other Requirements
- Must complete a background check and fingerprint identification upon hire to secure and maintain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Must complete a medical exam that includes screening for TB
- Must obtain a CPR, First Aid, and Food Handler’s certification within six (6) weeks of hire
- Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish may be required for some positions
ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS
The tasks listed are a representation and not an all-inclusive list of essential job tasks for this position.
- Develops and implements a multicultural curriculum and classroom environment and utilizes developmentally appropriate practices which meet the needs and interests of each child and complies with local and federal performance standards
- Ensures compliance with all Federal and Head Start regulations, State of Arizona licensing requirements, and program policies and procedures
- Assumes responsibility for the care and welfare of the classroom children and is responsible for supervising all children at all times in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and Program policies to ensure their safety and well-being
- Ensures the total classroom environment is safe, clean, orderly, and facilitates growth, development, and learning
- Participates in the regular team planning of curriculum, transitions, and other site planning with Program Staff Teaching Team, Professional Development Coaches, Family Educators, Family Support Specialists, and other program staff
- Prepares and maintains accurate records that evaluate ongoing observations of each child’s growth and development; these records include child health records, child observation, individualization, lesson plans, attendance, meal counts, parent involvement, family support, and additional items as directed while maintaining the confidentiality of child, family, and program information
- Supports and promotes each child’s physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and language development
- Completes formal developmental assessments on children with finalization/analysis and works with parents to develop an Education Plan based on these assessment results
- Participates in the development and implementation of Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP) for children with disabilities and plans classroom experiences to support the IFSP plan
- Provides oversight and direction to Teachers, Teacher Assistants, and classroom volunteers upon the absence of the Site Director
- Respects and supports the diverse cultural and family backgrounds and treats each child and parent as an individual; respects, values, and facilitates parent participation as equal partners in all aspects of Educational Plans
- Maintains daily communication with parents and conducts a minimum of two educational home visits and two parent/teacher conferences per family each program year
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with each family, site team members, community agencies, community partners, and grantee staff members
- Understands Early Education Division and Maricopa County policies and supports the philosophy of Maricopa County Human Services Department and Early Education Division in the implementation of performance standards, as identified in division goals, program policies, and procedures
- Assists in the planning of and participate in engagement activities and promotes parent volunteer experiences in the classroom
- Attends parent conferences, site meetings, IFSP meetings, staff meetings, parent meetings, in-service and pre-service training, and other meetings as directed
- Plans and assists child transition into Early Head Start and out of Early Head Start to Head Start or other preschool programs
- Actively participates in an individual and program professional development plan and collaborates with Professional Development Coach as needed
- Complies with all Child and Adult Care Food Program guidelines and CACFP record keeping
- Administers First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), as required and maintains certification
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a classroom, playground, and office environment as assigned and is subject to change based on the program need. May require travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles or private vehicles used on County business. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. Must be able to stand, sit on the floor, and be indoors and outdoors for extended periods. May be required to fill in as a substitute staff member at another program site. Possible exposure to bodily fluids and infectious disease.
