We are seeking an Early Childhood Teacher for our Early Learning Center:
Department Function:
The early childhood department provides services for children and families prenatal-5 years. The childcare rooms provide holistic services for toddler aged children.
Job Function:
The Early Childhood Teacher will ensure that all children are actively supervised and engaged while in the classroom and on site. The childcare lead is responsible for planning developmentally appropriate and responsive activities, partnering with families, and following all funder and accreditation guidelines including Early Head Start Learning Outcomes, NAEYC Program Standards, DCFS Licensing Rules, and DFSS Chicago Early Learning Standards.
Responsibilities:
Ensure that the classroom environment is safe, clean, and that all activities are age-appropriate and engaging.
Provide active supervision, supervision which requires focused attention and intentional observation of children at all times. Staff position themselves so that they can observe all the children: watching, counting, and listening at all times.
Support children’s cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development by actively playing with them, speaking with them, and modeling.
Create weekly activity plans using the model of emergent curriculum and the Creative Curriculum lesson planning tool.
Keep records on attendance, development, meals, health, and other as defined by funders.
Facilitate family-style meals and model healthy eating habits.
Follow proper health and hygiene protocols including emergency drills, diapering, toilet training, toothbrushing, and other daily care and health routines.
Document children’s development using Teaching Strategies Gold and documentation panels.
Maintain consistent, daily, and reciprocal communication with families.
Complete developmental questionnaires and facilitate completion of these questionnaires with families.
Schedule and facilitate 2 home visits and two parent-staff conferences per year.
Complete a minimum of 15 professional development hours a year and record them in the Illinois Gateways to Opportunity Registry.
Complete training in first aid/CPR, food handling, and mandated reporting.
Participate in recruitment events.
Maintain a high level of professionalism.
Other duties as defined that support the overall goals of the early childhood program.

Qualifications (Skills/Knowledge/Abilities):
Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
Minimum of thirty credits in Early Childhood.
Must have an Illinois Gateways Infant-Toddler Credential Level 5 or obtain one by 2024.
Must be able to connect well with children, families, and coworkers
Ability to work in a multilingual and multicultural environment.
Interest or experience with Reggio Emilia and emergent curriculum preferred.
Must be able to lift a 40-pound child and actively keep up with the children’s movements.
Early Childhood development, computer usage including email and basic functions of Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication with staff, clients and funders.
Must provide proof of Covid19 vaccination, or complete Medical or Religious exemption documentation, provided by our HR department, and complete weekly Covid testing.
